Electrical Engineer / Test Engineer - Smart Meter Testing
AMI Lab Tester
Located in Lansdowne , MD. 21227
Duration: 9 month plus assignment.
Testing of Hardware and Software for AMI Advanced Metering devices and equipment in the Lab.
Creation and running of test scripts; diagnosing and troubleshooting issues.
Looking for engineering experience and experience with radio communications experience.
Bachelor's or Associates in Engineering or Technology/Telecommunication Degree.
The team is working on projects that involve:
The Upgrade of AMI Network headend, UIQ. Includes testing of devices which communicate over the AMI network which involves programming electric and gas meters/communication modules.
The work will entail being trained in the software used to collect data from physical electric and gas meters and use that training to perform prescribed tests on the newest version of the headend software (where all the data goes). Test performance will involve interacting with the physical meter assets to program them to receive certain data/alarms. It will also involve performing actions on the meters to trigger alarms and validate their transmission across the AMI network and into the headend software correctly. Certain test cases use Arduinos to control physical devices and may need to be reprogrammed to provide specific test conditions. The perfect candidate will be able to identify when defects are present in the software being tested and be able to distinguish when the unexpected results are due to a defect or due to an error in test setup/execution. When unsure, the perfect candidate will have a preclusion to ask for assistance from the lab manager to troubleshoot unexpected issues and incorporate those learnings into future testing.
